- 1 cup: Sama rice Washed and soaked for 1 hr
- 2 tablespoons Ghee
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 2 Chopped green chillies
- 1 tsp Chopped ginger
- 10 Cashews
- 10 Roasted peanuts
- 10 Raisins
- 1/2 cup boiled potato Cubes
- 1/2 cup boiled sweet potato Cubes
- 2-2.5 cups Boiling water
- as per taste Rock salt, chilli powder
- 1 tsp each Cumin powder and sugar
- 1/2 cup Curd
- as required Chopped green coriander to garnish
- as required Roasted makhana to serve as side munchy
Instructions to make to make Vrat Ka Pulao/ Sama Ka Pulao
- First, heat 1 tablespoon ghee in a pan. Drain and add the sama rice in it. Saute for 5 minutes. Then add boiling water and salt, cook covered on low flame till it is soft, cooked and water is absorbed. Remove after cooking and cool to room temperature. Separate the grains with a fork and keep the rice without cover.
- Now heat the pan again. Add 1 tablespoon ghee. Slow fry the nuts one by one and remove in a plate.
- Then add rest of the ghee and pop cumin seeds in it. Then saute the chillies, ginger for 1 minute. Then add both the potato pieces and saute till crispy.
- Then add curd, salt, sugar, chilli and cumin powder and mix well while stirring. Then add the cooked sama rice.
- Now gently mix well, mix in half of the nuts and coriander leaves and adjust the seasoning. Your vrat ka pulao is ready.
- Serve it garnished with rest of the nuts, coriander leaves and roasted makhana in the side. Enjoy!
